Mardi Gras at VFW Post Draws Large Opening Crowd

One of the largest crowds ever attended the opening night of the Second Annual Mardi Gras at the Richard F. Metcalf Post Veterans of Foreign Wars on Shore Drive. The grounds glowed with colored lights and lanterns as hundreds of citizens and friends filled the venue. The event runs each evening through July 25, with booths lining the grounds selling merchandise.

New Massachusetts Speed Limit Law in Effect

The new speed limits raise outdoor limits from 21 to 23 miles outside dense districts and from 15 to 20 miles inside dense districts while allowing up to 15 miles where visibility is obstructed at intersections. Registrar Morgan T. Ryan cautions the change does not authorize unsafe driving and aligns with broader progressive legislation.

Annual Outing Of W C W C Held At Gloucester

Despite poor weather about seventy five members and guests of the Winthrop Catholic Women's Club traveled by motor to Thorwald Gloucester on July 8 for the clubs annual outing. A decorated dining room, a fine dinner, and an afternoon of bridge and whist with prizes followed. Two elderly members, Mrs Annie Egan and guest Mrs Foley, attended, while Mrs Katherine Pevear chaired the day and her committee rode home satisfied.

Winthrop Aviator Joins Forbes Grenfell Mapping Expedition

Harold G. Crowley an aviator from Edgehill road travels to Labrador with the Forbes Grenfell expedition to map the territory by air. He participates as part of the surveying effort, flying over unmapped areas and contributing to aerial reconnaissance and data collection.

George McEwan Injured In Auto Accident

Word reached Moncton that George McEwan of 89 Johnson Avenue was admitted to Moncton City Hospital with severe facial and head cuts after his car overturned about 12 miles west of Moncton. His wife and two children suffered minor injuries. The car was badly damaged. Misses Annie and Mollie McGilliuddy spent the past week at the Winthrop, E Hampstead, N H.
