Directors of Narrow Gauge Railroad Prepare Bankruptcy Plea

The Boston Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad filed for Chapter 77B protection in federal court seeking to reorganize. Shareholders and directors authorized the petition on July 12 and the firm seeks to continue operations. Liabilities and assets are each $4,523,277 with losses reported for 1936 and the first quarter of this year. The line, electrified in 1928, spans thirteen miles with four ferry boats serving Boston to East Boston.

Local Lad Ties For Caddie Title

Charley Weisberg of Winthrop Golf Club and Ted Adams of Wollaston tied at 148 after a 71 final round in the state caddie championship at Commonwealth Country Club. They face a Sunday playoff at 2 p.m. on the same course. Weisberg, senior at Winthrop High, trailed by two strokes earlier. Ed Anderson and John O Connor tied for third at 152.

Catholic Club To Hold Outing July 21

The Winthrop Catholic Woman's Club annual Summer Outing will take place July 21 at The Fo'cas'le of Hotel Rockmere in Marblehead. A lobster dinner will be served and bridge or whist played. Mrs Schmidt is chairman with Mrs Pevear as treasurer. reservations due by July 19.

Point Shirley Residents Protest Outsider Parking

Residents of Point Shirley and nearby areas protest influx of out of town motorists during hot weather. They report jammed streets, noise, and obnoxious behavior, despite police efforts to regulate parking. Women residents especially disturbed by outsiders and demand action to curb conditions.

Town Meeting Reverses Vote On Town Garage Purchase

After voting to buy land for a new town garage the special meeting reversed the decision. Article five passed to fund 30,400 square feet of land, but article six to erect the garage was defeated amid opposition led by the Water Department.

Winthrop Trust Company Report Summarizes June 30 1937 Condition

The Winnthrop Trust Company of Winthrop Massachusetts reports assets totaling 1 076 447 94 with 9 500 pledged for special deposits and a 5 28 percent currency reserve. The Thirty day average reserves include 17 28 percent in deposits and 6 00 percent in U S and Massachusetts bonds. Officials include President Almon E Whittemore Treasurer Harry W Aiken and ten additional directors. The bank is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
