W J Marsh 50 Years to Coast on Railroad

Walter J. Marsh of Winthrop Lodge Elks leaves South Station for Portland July 14 to attend Grand Lodge. He will stop in Chicago for a reception by the Chicago Elks as part of a half century with a small railroad and veteran engineer Joe Cyr who has spent most of his life on the Boston Land Company line serving Winthrop commuters. The routine includes morning runs, work trains, and evening operations ending around 6 P M. Continued on Page 8.

Chicago Lodge hosts wives and 100-piece band

Wives with their 100-piece band were guests of the local Lodge and expressed appreciation through resolutions sent to Winthrop Lodge at their next regular meeting. The Chicago delegation in Portland will have special headquarters and have invited Mr Marsh to be their guest during his stay.

Winthrop Legion Auxiliary Celebrates Fifth Birthday

The final meeting of the Winthrop Legion Auxiliary was a costume party held Friday evening. Members arrived in costumes and enjoyed a fine evening with refreshments. Mrs. Walter McMullen served as chairman.

Elks Ladies Host Weekly Whist Series at Elks Home

Mrs. Julia A. Horrigan to lead the hope chest project with an Aug. 1 Elks Fair. A weekly whist series will run Mondays at 8 p m at the Elks home with prizes for players to raise funds for the chest.
