Elks Lodge Hosts Visitation and Banquet at Winthrop
Last Wednesday the Elks District Deputy Harry Gleason visited the Winthrop lodge. Several candidates were advanced, speeches by B Mark Sullivan and Logan McLean drew praise, and gifts were exchanged. A later Friday reception for Bazaar helpers drew about 400 attendees amid snow and merriment with dancing and games.

Snowbound Winthrop Retains Cold Weather Spirit
Last Saturday night brought a heavy snowstorm and bitter cold that paralyzed Winthrop. Railroad crews with 90 men under Reynolds battled drifts on the outer track, bucking snow with engines and plows until tracks were clear by noon. By Monday, service neared normal as Supt. Fenno and colleagues directed operations to keep trains moving despite wintry conditions.
