Elks Hold Memorial Service at Winthrop Lodge

Sunday evening December 6 the Winthrop Lodge Elks held memorial services in the Washington Street lodge room. The ceremony featured a grand procession by Fred Strachan Orchestra, memorial address by Arthur B. Corbett secretary to Boston mayor James M. Curley, and a program including hymns and a vacant chair tribute.

Supreme Court Appeals Zoning Case in Winthrop

Winthrop and town solicitor Leon C. Guptill win the first skirmish in a zoning battle over Centre Station land and two adjoining lots to permit seven stores. Harris Rosenthal and Benjamin Zakon seek a writ to force a building permit, while Attorney W Harold Hitchcock pursues certiorari. Justice Carroll sustained the town demurrer delaying action until certiorari is pursued.

Santa Claus Coming Again in Winthrop

The Elks announce Santa Claus will visit Winthrop on Christmas morning at the Winthrop and Dream theatres. Two big trees from Mr. Hatch will hold gifts for each attending child, with a special picture showing that morning. Charle Clark and John ny McAuliffe coordinate arrangements as the doors open for all youngsters.

Widening of Revere Street to be discussed at March meeting

A Special Committee held a hearing in Osborne Hall with members from the Board of Selectmen the Advisory Board the Planning Board and the Moderator. They reviewed three proposals widening Revere Street building a marshland parallel road and completing a Park Nahant Sewallows link. The panel split on merits and will report recommendations at the March town meeting.
