The Winthrop Woman's Club and Garden Club announce the Winter Flower Show in Ellis Hall on December 9 and 10 from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Entries open to Winthop residents with classes ranging from Christmas arrangements and door decorations to showpieces by Girl and Boy Scouts, terrariums, dish gardens, and aquariums. Entries accepted until 10:30 a.m. Friday. judges will award prizes and a tea room will be open.

Bell Named Winthrop Community Fund Chairman
S Franklin Bell has been named community chairman for Winthrop in Greater Boston’s 1939 Community Fund drive running January 23 to February 7 across 45 cities and towns. The appointment was announced by W S Kendrick, vice chairman of the Metropolitan Division. Bell builds his local organization ahead of the holiday season for the drive supporting 114 agencies and over 150 hospitals and health service groups serving Winthrop and Greater Boston.

Town authorizes bill to fund Narrow Gauge railroad plan
At a special town meeting held Monday night residents overwhelmingly approved a Transportation Committee report seeking authority to file a Legislature bill. The move would allow the town to contribute to the Boston Revere Beach Lynn railroad, match bondholder and employee contributions, and secure a Reconstruction Finance Corp loan to enable further rail work and operation for about another year.
