House Built New Way Shows Modern Concrete Block Design

John M. Simpson unveils a near finished Massachusetts home at Endfield Road built with hollow concrete blocks 14 inches thick and 8 inches above. Red concrete block chimneys and roof tiles use water seal. reinforced concrete porches echo quarry tile. The design promises lower maintenance, better insulation, and reduced heating costs.

Tax Rate Set for 1925 at $25.20 in Town

Board of Assessors and town officials arranged the 1925 tax rate at 25.20, down from 26.50 last year and 24.50 in 1923. An advertisement notes a sale of children's specialties at Collyer Sisters home, 48 Shore Drive, Wednesday August 19 from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Vaudeville Opens at Winthrop and Dream Theatres

The season opened with five B F Keith's acts pleasing patrons at both the Winthrop and the Dream. A weekly vaudeville program plays every Wednesday at Winthrop and Dream, with Friday night at the Dream dubbed Opportunity Night offering a surprise for guests.

Beacons Placed at City Corners Amid Office Gossip

Boston reports deny a claimed order by District Attorney O'Brien to purge a list of places. A new beacon or silent policeman began at Pauline and Pleasant streets on Friday August 7 at 4 30. Another sentry at Magee's corner. Brookline Fire and Police host a Chestnut Hill Golf links tour, Aug 3 to 15, with Dan Horan offering to adjust handicaps for department players.

Workman Falls 15 Feet at Walden Street Site

Dominic Caprone, 18 Barton Street, Boston, fell 15 feet while working on a new building stage on Walden Street last Friday around 3 40 PM. He was taken by Officer Turner to East Boston Relief Hospital with injuries including a hurt left shoulder and back, severely shaken.

Two Deaths Through Canoe Accident in New Hampshire

Miss Irene Melanson of Winthrop and Chester Breslin of Malden died in a canoe accident on a lake near Goff's Falls New Hampshire. Police concluded both drownings were accidental after a canoe rental receipt tied Breslin to the vessel. Breslin's body was later buried in Malden and Miss Melanson's funeral followed in Winthrop. investigators cite a jetty collision and a possible rescue attempt as the cause.

Representative Power Visits Town and Plans August Stay

Representative Edgar F. Power spent last week in town and will remain with Mrs. Power in Norwell Massachusetts for most of August. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. McLaughlin and daughters returned home after resting in North Woodstock New Hampshire Thursday at 1 25 p m. A fire alarm from box 23 reported a curtain fire at 30 Sea Foam Avenue in Mrs. Solomon's home.
