Finnish Minister Visits Here Sunday Afternoon
Finnish diplomat Hjalmar J. Procope, Washington's noted envoy, visited Winthrop for a reception at John B. Mattson's home on August 6. Surrounded by 200 guests including local officials he received warm greetings and the band played the national anthem. The four day state tour included Boston Concord Fitchburg and other towns with wreath laying and factory tours before a Fitchburg banquet. He spoke of peace and international cooperation shaping his public life.

VFW Parade to Honor Governor Saltonstall in Boston
Local VFW veterans will lead the 40th national encampment parade with Governor Saltonstall as honorary grand marshal and Colonel Thomas F. Sullivan as chief marshal. Richard F. Metcalf Post of Winthrop will participate along with overseas veterans, auxiliary and junior groups for a six hour event forming at Massachusetts Ave and Beacon St, passing the State House to Tremont Street. Grandstands for 20,000 spectators are being erected with the main review stand on Tremont Street between Winter and Boylston.

Local Delegates To Attend Outing
Delegates from Winthrop and friends plan the annual outing staged by the State Council of Young Men's Republican Clubs of Massachusetts on Saturday Aug. 12 at Nabnasset Lake Country Club Westford near Lowell. Indoor and outdoor activities will occur regardless of weather with boating swimming golf tennis and more. Orin S. Kenney of Beverly chairs the council ways and means committee. A catered dinner at 6 30 pm will be followed by dancing. Tickets available from local delegates.
