Ingleside Park Filling Underway After Dredge Start

Work to fill Ingleside Park with about 76000 cubic yards of mud began Monday as the North Atlantic Dredging Co started 24 hour pumping into the park from the Pleasant Park basin near Winthrop Bridge. The suction dredge churns mud into water which is to drain back to the harbor. the project is estimated to take six to seven weeks.

Belcher Enters Republican Primary for House Seat

Aspirants for state offices rise as filing nears. A. Russell Belcher, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, announced his bid for the Republican nomination for the House of Representatives and said he will run as an independent if not endorsed. Other Republicans include Albert Hayes and Edward R. Thomas. Possible Democratic contenders include D. J. Honan for re endorsement and Chester O'Donnell for the nomination.

Services Held For Mrs. Nellie Curtis

Mrs Nellie F Curtis of 180 Somerset Avenue died last Saturday after a brief illness. She was 75 or 76, widow of George M Curtis, and active in Revere Chelsea and Winthrop civic life. Funeral was Monday at First Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev Harry Belmont Hill officiating. She leaves sons Arthur H and Austin S of Winthrop and brother George E Sleeper of Derry NH. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery Everett.

McElligott Dies Suddenly at 66 in Fitchburg

Bernard F. McElligott state director of RFC and ERA comptroller collapsed at home in Boston after a phone chat and died before medical help. He moved to RFC roles in 1935 after previously serving as ERA comptroller and was former comptroller at Meade Morrison Manufacturing in East Boston.

Town Meeting Held Despite Heat at Ingleside Park Bleacher Study

The special town meeting proceeded in hot weather with a quorum and three articles addressed. Chairman Sidney Blandford recalled two citizens Henry Barry and John Hanmer, calling for a one minute silence. Article one proposed appointing a three member committee to study bleacher needs and costs for Ingleside Park.

Town Meeting Success Reaches Quorum in Short Session

Winthrop town meeting called by the Board of Selectmen drew 141 members, surpassing the 133 required for a quorum. The event at the Junior High School lasted under 30 minutes after an 8:00 pm check, with a premeeting fire alarm at 7:30 pm urging attendance and town duty.
