Old ice houses of the Winthrop Pure Ice Co. burned after midnight Friday. Charles L. Young raised the alarm. firefighters from Revere and Fort Banks battled a large blaze aided by Highlands winds. Ladder Co. 2 fought spot fires as sparks drifted and tracks were saved by a water stream. Firefighters endured near injuries, with continued coverage on Page 3.
Nature beamed on Winthrop Highlands Association as its new pier worth $3000 opened. Clouds loomed in the morning but the forenoon sun emerged, making the event delightfully bright and promising for the community gathering.
The Republican League of Winthrop endorsed Elmer Dawson for Representative from the district after a harmonious meeting in Social Hall. Chas Bradbury and Alfred Tewksbury declined to run. Tewksbury noted he would run in two years. The group also discussed gas rates and added new members to the roll.
