Norwich Cadets Set to Entertain at Cottage Park Yacht Club

The Norwich University Cadets will perform next Monday evening at Cottage Park Yacht Club. The event features a display by the cadet unit, drawing attendees from the university and local community for an evening of military music and precision entertainment.

The university cadets will perform Monday night April 16 at Cottage Park Yacht Club. The concert features a mixed group including an eight man section and a ten piece orchestra with the Rhythm Kings, opening at eight with lively numbers and spirituals.

Hood Employees In 6th Annual Banquet

The Orient Heights Branch of Hood & Sons held its sixth annual banquet at the Winthrop Arms Hotel on April 5. Over 100 employees and their wives attended, with decorations in Hood colors and music by the orchestra. Sales Manager R F Garrity announced the winners of a sales contest, listing the twelve winning salesmen and four winning foremen, and speakers included H E Kimball F H Pingree and W L Johnson.

ERA Registration Day Set for April 16 at Town Hall

All residents who have never registered for CWA PWA or ERA work may register Monday morning April 16 from 9 30 to noon at Town Hall. The ERA administrator for Winthrop is Leonard C Atkinson son of the Board of Selectmen. A pumping station contract was awarded to Worthington Pump Co at the Monday Board of Selectmen meeting.

Vesper Service Conducted at Harvard on Alumni Day

Rev. Ralph M. Hasper rector of St. John's Episcopal Church led the vesper service at Harvard University on April 10 during the annual visitation day for returning alumni.

Winthrop Golf Club Opens 1934 Season With Events

Winthrop Golf Club to officially open its 1934 season this Saturday April 14 with the first tournament set for Patriots Day April 19. President Harold R MacNamee notes regular greens should be playable and a grand opening smoker Friday invites local citizens. Howell Cullinan will speak on radio broadcasting. Jim Lally returns as professional, caddy master to improve service, and lessons will be offered. New one year residents format membership starts January 1 at $50 plus $5 tax.

Madden Appointed Pastor of St John the Evangelist

The Rev. Mick E Madden of St John’s Canton is named new pastor of St John the Evangelist Winthrop by Cardinal O Connell. He fills the vacancy after Rev James A Crowley’s death, previously serving at Jamaica Plain Houghs Neck and St Philip’s South End before returning to St John’s.

Winthrop Couple Die in Suspected Gas Poisoning

Charles B. Burk 66 and his wife Mary E. Burk 66 were found dead in their bedroom at 162 Shirley Street in what authorities call a gas poisoning likely from a gas log. Their son Charles H. Burk Jr. reported the deaths after a call from Joseph Abrams. medical examiners planned autopsies at North Grove Mortuary.
