The First Church of Winthrop Methodist plans two identical Easter morning services at 9 45 and 11 00 with Rev. Harry Belmont Hill delivering the sermon “Intimations of Immortality.” Music by combined choirs directed by Carl W. Malley includes hymns, anthems, solos, and a postlude. Easter offerings feature a rich program with organ, brass, and vocal ensembles.
The Easter service at St John’s Episcopal Church features a full organ preludes and postludes, choirs, and multiple hymns including Welcome Happy Morning and Jesus Christ Is Risen Today. Organist and choir director Miss Lucy M. French leads the service with processions, responses, and an offertory anthem.
Reverend A Ray Meserve presides at First Baptist with George O Arkwell directing mu sic. Easter Sunday service features organ preludes hymns anthems and a cantata presented by Combined Youth and Adult Choirs and organ postlude.
Mrs John McAniff of New York City will address Winthrop Catholic Women's Club at the Annual Communion Breakfast in St Johns Hall Lincoln Street on Sunday morning May 4 after the 830 mass at St John the Evangelist Church. The Boys Choir will sing and special guests include Winthrop High School girls.
Holy Week services at the Church of St. John the Evangelist include Easter Sunday Mass at 10 a.m. with Easter music led by Herbert Sheehan. Holy Thursday 6:30 a.m. Holy Communion 7:00 a.m. Solemn High Mass and Procession. Good Friday services begin 7:00 a.m. with Mass of the Presanctified and 3:00 p.m. Stations of the Cross. Evening service 7:45 p.m. with sermon by Rev. John J. Starr. Holy Saturday 7:00 a.m. Blessing of Easter Water and Solemn High Mass. Easter Water distributed after Mass.
Mr. and Mrs. William P. Natale marked their fifty sixth wedding anniversary on Monday April 7 1941 with a 6 30 pm buffet for immediate family and an informal reception. Neighbors friends and relatives gathered at their home to greet the couple. The scene featured a decorated cake and floral bouquets including a box of fifty five talisman roses. Their son Gus showed moving pictures from a trip to Texas and Mexico while Mrs Peggy Natale hosted with help from daughter Marguerite.
William J. Cawthorne announces on behalf of the local Legion Post that boys aged 10 to 15 are invited to join the Sons of the American Legion Band. Rectifiers meet Wednesdays at 7 p m at the Legion Dugout on Herman Street under Walter Smith, noted New England cornetist and band leader.
The Pleasant Park Yacht Club will host a family night on Tuesday evening April 15 featuring Mr. Edward Snow presenting a lecture with pictures on the history of the Boston Harbor Islands. Refreshments and dancing will follow.
Professor Bart Jan Bok of Harvard University will address the public at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday night April 16 at 8. He speaks on Food for the Small Democracies, raising awareness for Finland Norway Holland Belgium and Central Poland and the need for neutral aid to protect food supplies and deliver relief through blockades.
