Stavanger Laget I Amerika Opens Three Day Meeting

Pleasant skies greet a large Norwegian gathering as the Stavanger Laget I Amerika begins a three day convention in Valley City. The parade to the Chautauqua grounds features 2,000 participants and ten banners from Stavanger communities. A welcome address by Mayor Moe precedes performances by Prof. Lassesen and Rev. Eastvold who emphasizes faith and heritage. Moving pictures will document the event for Norway, with sessions planned for Wednesday including an address by ex-Governor Alanna and a Sofie Hammer recital.

Old Ties Along The N P To Be Given To Farmers

Northern Pacific Railway will give discarded railroad ties to farmers and residents along the right of way as a war economy measure to relieve suffering. In recent years old ties were burned and giving them away had stopped due to misuse. E A Greenwood left Tuesday morning for Jamestown on a business trip.

Dazey Graduates Feature Local Commencement

Dazey public and high school graduates were honored in a capacity Lutheran church program last Friday evening. High school members Paul Jones and Clara Dodge led, with eighth grade graduates Harold Glesner, Helen Krueger, Elsie Jacobson, Vera Osborne, Lucile Stanley, Donald Brewster, Leo Stowman, Bennett Nelson, Helen Glesner, and Mabel Larson receiving diplomas. The event included songs, a noted address by Rev. Vermilya on life’s climb, and proceeds from related activities benefiting Red Cross and War Relief.

Pioneer Woman Dies During Montana Visit

Mrs Gertrude Leondort a pioneer eight miles west of Valley City passed away at Walt Point Montana while visiting family. She came to the area 34 years ago, survived by four sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Catholic church with Father Baker officiating.

Valley City Visitors and Events Highlight Local Life

Senator Martin Thoreson visited from Fingal on Monday. Mrs paneepenntanesei hosted the Altar of St. Catherine’s at the school hall Thursday. Miss Lulu Satterlund arrived from Washburn for the Normal Alumni meeting and stayed with Miss Annia Baillie. Jos. Diemert of Sanborn stopped by on Saturday. John Vondrachek sought to add his name to the subscription list. Rev J. J. Dalton, formerly of Valley City, is now in Bowman. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kramer and Mr. Atchison and family came to attend the Kramer mother’s funeral. The Montana death of Mrs. Leondort is noted with a funeral at the olfo church.

Judge Robinson to Speak at Chautauqua Old Settlers Day

Justice J E Robinson a longtime North Dakota Supreme Court figure will headline the Chautauqua Old Settlers Day July 12 in Valley City. The veteran judge, known as a plain speaker, is expected to draw crowds as he discusses state development from the desert era to a productive present.

Grand Prairie Social Notes and Local Movements

Friday brought lumber haul for the Grand Prairie school barn. A large Thursday schoolhouse crowd attended the program with ice cream and cake served afterward. The Scudders left Saturday for Fargo to visit Mrs. Scudder's mother and Indiana for summer. Several local residents and families attended camp meetings and social visits through the weekend, with updates on moving back to the farm and a measles case among Dollie Noxon.
