Co operative Consumers Farm Idea Proposed by Local Buyer

The Plaza Pioneer reports a satirical notion from Mr Cady north of town proposing a cooperative consumers farm. He suggests the town begin a venture to sell rights to butter and grain and to market locally produced goods.

Town plan to sell produce direct from farm backed by $10,000 pledge

The proposal promises 10 percent profit margin without freight and a $10 annual charge for townspeople to purchase produce locally. Mr Cady would invest $10,000 of $340,000 in farm and equipment, with $80,000 surplus to be spent on education or political aims. He claims townspeople are impoverished by buying too much hay and grain while farmers grow wealthier, and insists on cutting out middlemen. For $16 more, he would provide voting information to locals, arguing the town will never prosper unless people vote the right way. The Pioneer opposes this plan, as it does Townley’s plan.
