Club work over the past year shows net earnings of 2618.77 dollars and products valued at 63047.66 dollars by the Boys and Girls Club of the county. Twenty five clubs formed, ten completed as Standard Clubs with USDA approval. 323 youths reported work finished. Ten county winners earned trips to the Boys and Girls Institute at Fargo. two of twelve state winners were from Barnes County.

Mrs John Burchill widow of Jno Burchill deglased died at home at the corner of First Avenue and Fifth Street on December 18 1919 at 1 oclock. Born in Schull Ireland May 10 1837 she was 82 years 7 months 8 days old. She and her husband came to the United States in 1880 settling in Sauk Center Minnesota later moving to Barnes County Grand Prairie Township then Forest Grove Oregon and finally Valley City where they remained until death. Interment was in the Free Methodist burial ground Grand Prairie on December 20 1919.
Indianapolis December 23 The federal grand jury probing mining conditions in Kansas held Alex Howatt president of the Kansas coal miners without bail after citing him for contempt of court. He made no comment on charges that he obstructed the court order for miners to return to work. The case is expected to be moved to Kansas for closer inquiry.
