Proposed Amendment Sparks Prohibition Clash in Oklahoma City
From Oklahoma City reports indicate a mass meeting may rally both prohibitionists and anti prohibitionists. Critics say the pending amendment would nullify penalties, restrict voting to towns, empower a mayor appointed licensing board, enable broad graft, and permit transferable saloon licenses, undermining self government and fair recall of licenses.

Chicago and Northwestern hearings on earnings and rates
In Chicago on Sept 23, W A Gardner vice president of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad testified before the Interstate Commerce Commission. He argued the firm earned substantial dividends and surplus over ten years and that labor costs and union restrictions reduced net profits more than material costs. He opposed the idea that rates should finance dividends and urged applying additional earnings to property improvements and suitable interest or dividends from earnings.

Taft Backed By State GOP Platform At Springfield
The Republican state convention adopted a Taft Deneen friendly platform with a tariff plank aligned to the president’s campaign letter. Speaker Cannon urged maintaining the Republican faith even at political risk. Lorimer and Jom are not named in the platform, while Deneen appears as temporary chairman and may push for Cannon as permanent chair. The delegation will receive blanket approval and the platform disavows bipartisan alliances linked to Shurtley and Lorimer.
