Capitol Commission HS Tendered Resignation
Oklahoma City June 21 Boone Williams of Leigh and Tate Brady of Tulen, democratic members for the state capital commission, handed resignations to Governor Cruece. Dr. Bennett of Muskogee, the Republican member, is expected to resign. The governor plans to place capitol construction under the state board of public affairs as ex officio capitol commissioners to comply with the law. The resigning members warn that capitol buildings attract unscrupulous interests and question the board’s ability to legally build the capitol. They object to diverting $25,000 monthly from the Capital Building company without a specific appropriation and anticipate legal challenges to such spending. They say the board of affairs can build the capitol more cheaply and intend to surrender their commissions. They acknowledge no fault with any member and note two incompatible offices were created by the people and legislature. The letters emphasize the state may lose money if the contract funds are not properly appropriated.
