Ownership and Tax Value Clash at Western Union Hearing
Oklahoma City June 30 Representatives of Western Union argued before the state board of equalization that the merger with the American Telegraph and Telephone Company should not affect tax value. The board overruled the request to reveal merger price, noting the value of the property drives taxes. The company valued Oklahoma property at 414,000 but suggested 850,000 if rebuilt. The board set the assessment at 1,450,000, far above other state valuations. Depreciation and earnings data showed a 2010 Oklahoma business net loss of 8,890.07 despite 87,350.99 in gross revenue with no depreciation included.
