Turkey Island land dispute delays receiver appointment
Tulsa January 2 The state of Oklahoma suffers a setback as District Judge L M Poe declines to grant a receiver for Turkey Island in the Arkansas River until title disputes are resolved. The 84 acre tract between Osage and Pawnee counties hosts valuable oil wells now idle after drilling by Producers Oil Company. The United States government, the state of Oklahoma, Larry No-Legs and others claim rights to the land and wells. If wells cannot be operated, the state argues, they will be ruined and a receiver should manage operations and proceeds.
