Dollar a Day Pension Bill Passes House
The Dollar a Day Pension Bill cleared the House by a large margin with 84 Democrats opposed to 8 Republicans. Speaker Clark supported it. Leader Underwood opposed. The measure raises the annual pension appropriation from 157 to 230 million dollars, with Oklahoma expected to pay about 4.5 million under the new law. The bill faces Senate opposition amid political maneuvering around Harmon Wilson and favored candidates. Oklahoma delegation members attended an anti saloon dinner at the National Hotel as part of ongoing political debate. Senator Gore pledges support for the Democratic nominee and dismisses claims of disloyalty, insisting he will back the party’s candidate.
