Storage houses vary in different sections
The insulated potato house favors southern climes, while northern areas need heating. The Aroostook Maine style with deep basements and concrete walls is costly and side-hill placed, vented mainly by floor traps. Dugout pits still dominate western regions, and refrigerated houses store northern seed potatoes for southern plantings, with potential for cooperative cold storage by southern growers.
