Thieves Loot Lyndonville Town Clerk Safe and Local Store Basements
Burglars entered Lyndonville in a bungling raid Sunday stealing about 150 dollars from the town clerk’s big safe and 7 dollars from the Donahue Stevens coal firm. They forced a window to reach the furnace room and entered the Smith grocery basement but found no further loot beyond attempting entry. They took 74 dollars belonging to Donahue Stevens and left upstairs unsecured. The town clerk’s safe was not locked regularly, aiding the theft while the basement lock thwarted further access. Local authorities describe the crime as amateurish.
