Front Royal Warren County Economic Development Authority presses ahead with tearing down the Afton Inn and rebuilding it. EDA Executive Director Jennifer McDonald told the council demolition remains the best option for most developers, despite Architectural Review Board opposition.
The Front Royal Warren County Chamber hosts its eighth annual Brew and Blues Festival featuring about 55 beers from Virginia and national brands. Performances by Hypnotic Willie Busy Cline and the Blue Devils accompany the samplings, with organizers noting enjoyment beyond drinking.
The eighth annual Brew and Blues Festival runs noon to 7 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Front Royal Village Commons and Chester Street with Main Street open. Admission is free for nondrinkers, advance beer tasting tickets are 20 dollars online until Friday 11 p.m. and 25 dollars at the gate.

Front Royal six middle schoolers were named 2017 Kim South Grant recipients by the Front Royal Women's Resource Center. Seventh graders Mary Jane Turner and Elizabeth Doyle join eighth graders Veda Mulligan Jenna Mulligan Paisley Patton and Alivia Turner in receiving the $1,000 grant to attend Studio A Place for Learning's summer art camp on impressionism.

Warren County Circuit Court has set a February jury trial for 18 year old Gore resident Bailey L Powell charged in the March stabbing death of 19 year old Leah Marie Adams of Front Royal. Powell is slated to appear February 12 to 19, 2018, before Judge Clifford Athey Jr. in Front Royal.
