A leaking sewer line created a sinkhole in the southbound lane of U S 11 in Edinburg Shenandoah County forcing traffic into the northbound lane near Comer Street. VDOT responders backfilled the hole and reopened the lane by about 10 p.m. the same day.
Loretta Lynn, the country legend, will headline the 12th annual Watermelon Park Fest at Watermelon Park in Berryville September 24 through 27. The festival, organized by Shepherd's Ford Productions, also features Hot Rize Pokey LaFarge Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band and Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers with workshops contests and kids activities. Day tickets cost 70 and are available online or at the gate.
Windrow renovated buildings on High Street and Blue Ridge and Virginia avenues in Front Royal leaving murals. She served eight years on the Board of Architectural Review and authored Images of Front Royal Virginia in 1996. A memorial plinth with paintings, a portrait, and biographical text was approved in June, funded by friends and family.
The Virginia Air Show offers wings on the program with potential hot air balloon lift offs if weather permits. Kids enjoy free face painting, an obstacle course, inflatable castle, rock climb, and a shooting gallery in the play area. A beer garden, multiple food and vendor booths, and a souvenir magnet for attendees add to the attractions. Admission is 5 dollars with free entry for children 6 and under and for uniformed military.
