Northbound drivers must stay left onto Shenandoah Avenue and encounter left turn lanes for Strasburg Road before merging, causing delays. VDOT notes the 1941 bridge’s replacement costs 72.2 million dollars and plans a six lane bridge with bike lanes, longer turn lanes, and a redesigned intersection at Strasburg Road and 18th Street, with construction through late 2017.
