Ground broken for Warren County Middle School

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Warren County Middle School was held off Happy Creek Road with participation from the Board of Education, Board of Supervisors, and Town Council. Current fourth-graders from Hilda J Barbour, Leslie Fox Keyser, and Bessie Jeffries Elementary Schools helped dig, signaling the upcoming first sixth graders. Superintendent Greg Drescher praised teamwork and thanked the Warren County School Board, Supervisors, Front Royal Town Council, County Administrator Doug Stanley, Town Manager Steve Burke, architects, and Howard Shockley and Sons Construction.

Residents complain of unsafe conditions at Ressie Jeffries Elementary

Parents staff and political candidates told the Board of Education about a leaky roof poor air conditioning and damaged fixtures at Ressie Jeffries Elementary School. They cited moldy tiles cracked doors and flooded hallways requiring trash bins in corridors during rain.

Nearly 3,000 Civil War reenactors at Cedar Creek battle

About three thousand reenactors fired muskets at the Cedar Creek Battlefield for the 151st anniversary. Patrick Kehoe of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation said the event drew close to 3,000 participants. The three day reenactment, begun Friday and ending Sunday, was a joint effort with Belle Grove Plantation and the National Park Service. Tours were part of the program.

Battle of Cedar Creek remembered with re enactions and lectures

The Battle of Cedar Creek on October 19 1864 yielded a Union victory aiding Lincoln re election. Kehoe notes chilly weather forty to fifty degrees with lows in the thirties but crowds still filled the parking lot as re enactments artillery demonstrations and lectures drew attendees on Page A3 battle report.

Front Royal council weighs police cameras and a drone

Town council at Monday night work session discussed police body and in car cameras, a motor cycle camera, and a possible drone for inspecting town property. WatchGuard Video of Allen Texas proposed 30 body cameras 10 in car cameras and one motorcycle camera for 96545 while Digital Ally bid 80795 but failed 39 of 109 specs. Mayor and IT director noted data storage and budget implications for next year.

Diabetic Children Walk Inspires Front Royal Effort

Mary Hensley and Rachel Dodson, two girls with diabetes, spurred Joanne Hensley and Carol Dodson to launch the Northern Shenandoah Valley JDRF One Walk. With Rotary Club sponsorship, the event now in its 14th year has raised about 300000 dollars for juvenile diabetes research and about 20000 this year. participants advocate for a cure and share personal experiences with the disease.
