Local business owners urge city leaders to approve funding and start the canopy lighting plan on the downtown storefront corridor. They argue the project will boost foot traffic, safety, and nighttime commerce as winter evenings grow darker.
Special education instructional assistant Dana Thomas told the School Board that poor building conditions at Bessie Jeffries Elementary School caused her health problems over five years. She cited mold and air issues since 2010, hospitalizations in 2014, and ongoing asthma and allergies, urging action on the capital improvements plan.
The Blue Ridge Arts Council hosts Deck the Halls fundraiser with a Premier Gala and Auction at 7 p.m. Friday inside BRAC’s building at 305 Main St. Admission is 10 dollars, with a 10 dollar discount on Deck the Halls merchandise. Doors open 6:30 p.m.. about 100 attend. Proceeds support BRAC programs.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office in Front Royal renewed its state accreditation for the third time, meeting 190 standards as part of Virginia’s accreditation process. Sheriff Danny McEathron praised the department, noting that only 92 of about 400 agencies in Virginia hold the accreditation, and Warrenton Police Chief Lee supported the achievement.
Front Royal has applied to join the Virginia Main Street America program to revitalize its downtown, aiming for organization design and economic growth. Seven Virginia towns applied with three to be chosen, and a rejection allows a two year reapply window.
The Virginia Main Street program, created by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, assists border towns and cities with tailored help. It provides access to state and national specialists, training on downtown issues, and ongoing marketing and promotions support.
County grand jury handed up indictments against Warrick Byron Norman and Clayton Marquis Williams for strangulation resulting in bodily injury. Norman also faced a misdemeanor count of assault on a family member. Indictments cover alleged Aug 7 incident. 21 people indicted overall including 12 on drug charges.
Salvation Army announces its annual Thanksgiving dinner to be held Wednesday November 25 at the Salvation Army Worship Center located at 357 Cloud Street. Volunteers include Terry Leckie Dena Allen and Tami, with contact at 540 635 4020 for details.
