Hiker Forgey Completes Partial Appalachian Trail Trek Despite Disability

Forgey aimed to accept disability and inspire others to overcome problems while hiking with escorts Eric Liles and Mark Ball. He covered about seven miles daily, faced downhill challenges, and endured numbness from a damaged nerve in his left leg. The Roller Coaster stretch slowed progress, shortening the trip by four days, but he remained grateful and hopeful for future hikes with his son.

Smith Run Fire in Shenandoah Park Burns 900 Acres

February weather fueled a fast moving Smith Run fire in Shenandoah National Park, with winds 35 to 40 mph and gusts over 50. Firefighters from multiple departments fought the blaze, evacuations affected nearly 40 homes, and the fire crossed Lands Run and reached Rapidan County before cooler weather slowed it.

Front Royal hosts a Civil War battle reenactment starting 1 p m Saturday on Main Street near the courthouse and concluding at the Warren Heritage Society on Chester Street.
