County mulls options for defunct golf course
Riverton's Front Royal Golf Club, county run and funded by taxpayers, has bled red for years. Budget talks last year cut spending, and this year golf was hardly discussed. Three options now exist: sell, lease, or keep under county control. Supervisor Archie Fox urged defunding. Dan Murray noted a potential buyer but did not reveal details.

Front Royal murder trial delayed over witness surgery
The first degree murder trial of Clay Curtis for the 2014 killing of taxi driver Simon Funk was postponed in Warren County Circuit Court. Judge Clifford Athey continued the case due to a material witness possibly being unable to testify because of medical issues as Sgt. Phillip Henry plans back surgery on May 4.

Strong Oaks Woodworking building gutted by weekend fire
Warren County Fire and Rescue investigated a weekend blaze at 1868B North Royal Avenue that gutted the two story Strong Oaks Woodshop warehouse. Flames leaped dozens of feet into the night sky as crews arrived four minutes after a caller reported a chemical fire. The caller and a family of three escaped unharmed.

Front Royal to mull 45.9 million budget for 2017 18
Front Royal council weighs advertising a 45.9 million general fund and enterprise budget for fiscal 2017 18 on Monday night. The plan increases overall spending about 0.5 percent with 10.9 million for the general fund 2.6 million for streets 633 395 for projects and remaining funds covering utilities. Electric fund about 19.7 million water and sewer 11 million and solid waste 1 million. Real estate tax stays at 13.5 cents with a half cent hike approved in March to help fund a future Kendrick Lane police station and an additional 100 000 moved to that project from an internal loan.

Front Royal to Stage Union Confederate Battle Reenactment
Tensely watched on East Main Street, the second May 23 1863 Battle of Front Royal reenactment will start at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Warren County Courthouse. Soldiers march down Main Street to Chester Street and end at the Warren Heritage Society as citizens line the route.
