County to Advertise Tax Increase to Cover Shortfall

Front Royal area officials plan to advertise a 30 cent rise in the real estate tax rate to cover a nearly four million dollar shortfall, after earlier talks of a possible three cent increase. The supervisor board voiced surprise at the sudden scope of the proposal.

County supervisors discussed a potential tax increase at a special hearing to raise the rate to 63 cents per $100 of assessed value. Dan Murray noted the extra half cent, while Archie Fox motioned to advertise the increase. Tony Carter Lee commented on the hearing details.

Town Manager Steven Burke presented a 45.8 million proposed budget for 2016 17 to the Town Council at a Monday work session. It sticks to a 13 cent real estate tax rate per 100 of assessed value as the council weighs next year’s rate after a failed 4 vote supermajority.

Warren County GOP taps Funk as chairman in acclamation

Daryl Funk was elected to a two year term as chairman of the Warren County Republican Committee at the recent mass meeting in Front Royal Warren County voters could file by paying a 200 fee and Funk was the only candidate chosen by acclamation as Steve Kurtz steps aside to pursue Regional Vice Chairman duties. He called the current political moment the most important of his lifetime and urged citizen involvement.
