County Faces $3.4 Million Shortfall in Budget Plans

Front Royal Virginia reports War ren County faces a 3,411,489 revenue gap as the board of supervisors starts shaping the 2014 15 budget. The proposed FY2014 15 budget totals 45,183,663 for all departments except schools, up 4,382,576 from the current 40,863,408. School funding remains uncertain until state notified. County leaders cite flat revenues in utilities meals taxes and lodging with local sales tax projections down, notably a sheriff’s department shortfall amid uncertain state receipts.

Finish in sight for regional jail completion near July opening

The Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren Regional Jail in Front Royal, a $82 million, 375-bed facility on U.S. 340 522, aims for substantial completion by April 9 and an open house June 26 before prisoners move in. Administrators plan evening shifts to fill 60 job openings and finalize contracts.

Schools want better pay benefits in Warren County

Front Royal Feb 27. Warren County Public Schools face another budget shortfall while neighboring districts plan raises and cheaper health insurance. Superintendent Pamela McInnis says salaries and benefits must be a top priority, noting WCPS premiums rose 19.8 percent last year and a 2 percent raise still cut take home pay.

Supervisors OK EDA buy of Leach Run Parkway land

Warren County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of two parcels for the Leach Run Parkway by the Economic Development Authority. One 1.58 acre site at 1546 John Marshall Highway costs 375000 plus 11250 in fees. the second 79 acre parcel at 1519 Happy Creek Road costs 190. The deal funds debt service per Fair Funding Formula with two thirds county and one third town. The project includes a bike trail and pedestrian walkway and is estimated at 12 million withVDOT funding about half.
