Shelter dog Sam finds new purpose with fire chief
Rivermont Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief John Smith and his therapy dog Sam visited Angel's Korner Daycare in Front Royal. Sam, aged 13, was abandoned in Tennessee and rescued by Southwestern Dalmatian Rescue of Roanoke. Now certified with Therapy Dogs Inc, he has aided patients at Warren Memorial Hospital, aided cancer-stricken children at Camp Fantas tic, and supported reading programs at Samuels Public Library. He slows with age but continues promoting adoption and fire safety.
