Williams grew up in Front Royal after moving in 1978 and quickly joined school leadership, student government, and extracurriculars. He volunteered for Republican campaigns, organized peers for polling, and spent time with county GOP figures in the smoke-filled Warren County Courthouse law library.
Wayne Williams, praised by Warren County GOP figures including Joe Swiger and Bob Liddy, helped steer a political shift that brought the party to the county board. The Star Leadership Award winner, educated at BYU and UVA, later held local offices in Colorado Springs and became secretary of state in 2014. He recalls mentoring young candidates who could not vote at the time, shaping community growth and political life. Williams plans a Washington trip for a National Association of Secretaries of State meeting and a Lincoln Day dinner return to his political roots in Front Royal.
The Shenandoah River from Front Royal to West Virginia is under a flood warning issued by the National Weather Service. Rain and snowmelt may push the main stem above flood stage near Millville, with crest estimates near 13 feet, while the South Fork is not included and expected to stay below flood stage.
