After about two years in place the downtown gazebo cameras were taken down by a 4-2 council vote on Monday. Councilwoman Bébhinn Egger argued the cameras infringe on citizens liberty and urged that the gazebo remain a public space free of surveillance for the town’s 15 000 residents.
Fire at 1365 Robin Lane caused more than 150000 in damage to a two story duplex. One resident escaped with minor burns. three pets remained trapped inside as Warren County Fire and Rescue officials investigated the causes. A separate blaze at 33 W 13th St produced similar damage as crews responded in the early hours.
Warren County Public Schools will outsource substitute teachers starting in 2016 to Source4Teachers. The district will be billed 81 dollars per day while Source4Teachers pays 60 dollars per day to teachers without degrees, with rates varying by experience. All current substitutes will be hired by the firm as a training and transition begins, with full takeover planned by March 2016.
The Naughty Girls Donut Shop in Riverton Commons appears permanently closed after opening last year by Natalie Ramos and her daughter Tiana who was 17 at the time. The website remains active but phone lines are unanswered and no further details are available at press time.
The Virginia Supreme Court will not hear Tareq Salahi's appeal of a dispute over using his Warren County property as a short term rental. The county won a May ruling by Warren County Circuit Court Judge Ronald Napier. Salahi sued the supervisors as individuals, claiming overreach and denial of a conditional use permit for Mosby Overlook Estates. He argued the zoning ordinance exceeded state powers. The county argued the suit belongs against the Board of Supervisors and filed a demurrer.
