County budget approved with 2 cent tax hike in Warren County

Warren County supervisors pass fiscal 2015 budget totaling 95.497 million, eliminating one sheriff's office position and trimming a proposed aircraft tax increase. The board approves a 2.5 percent salary step rise for three prosecutors and scales back aircraft tax to 75 cents per $100, citing airport economic goals and self sufficiency.

Main Street to replace Bradford pear trees in Front Royal

Bradford pear trees along Main Street Front Royal are being phased out under a 2012 program. Fifteen trees remain with half to be removed this August and the rest in 2015 due to weak structure and root damage to sidewalks. Replacements will use smaller growing species guided by horticulturist Anne Rose.
