United Way in Front Royal unveils the Phoenix Project an interim program to restore domestic and sexual violence services lost when Harmony Place closed in 2013. The Laurel Center Winchester will handle sexual violence support with Paula Johnson in charge. Faithworks Winchester will provide domestic violence services and act as fiscal agent.

George Washington forest plan stalls decision on drilling ban
After more than two years the Forest Service has not set a new completion date for the George Washington National Forest management plan. The 1993 plan is updated roughly every 10 to 15 years and a fall 2013 deadline was missed. A key dispute is whether to ban horizontal oil and gas drilling across the 1.1 million acre forest spanning Virginia and West Virginia with 53 000 comments on the 2011 draft, most in favor of a ban. The Natural Resources Defense Council submitted about 36 500 comments in support.

Town unveils fiscal 2015 budget in Front Royal
