A Soo Line delegation led by Vice President Pennington met Minot leaders including I. M. Davis and T. P. Griffen to discuss a new depot site and improved freight rates. Pennington pledged satisfaction for Minot once the depot is completed, noting seasonal business downturns and promising rate revisions to boost local trade.
A Saturday evening rainfall of a couple of inches soaks ground aiding grain sprouting and early crops. Farmers report satisfactory conditions despite a late spring with much fieldwork already done. A drive south shows steam breakers at work, including on James Scofield's banana farm where several hundred acres were broken. Scofield expects 1200 acres of crops this year.
The Burlington old settlers association encampment has been adjourned with plans for daily amusements for youth and family gatherings by the campfire. On June 22 Chief Justice David E. John Blakeley an employee of D A Dianie had the first finger of his right hand amputated when a wagon reach closed on it. The injury occurred as Blakeley, who had arrived from Paynesville Minnesota two days earlier, was working and the finger was dressed by a surgeon.
A major event arrives in Minot with Campbell Bros Shows bringing their full circus to town on June 17. The act promises unprecedented feats under canvas and a grand, modern program not seen before in eastern cities. The company touts progress and novelty as it heads to this season’s biggest attraction.
The Soo Railroad introduces a new train starting June 17 described as its finest equipment. It will reach Minot daily from the west at 12 35 PM and arrive in Minneapolis from the east at 1 20 AM, promising popularity among western communities.

W A Pickard Co representative spent Wednesday and today at P W McCoy s store, displaying about a thousand pieces of hand painted china. The wares, worth several thousand dollars, drew many city ladies who left orders for items. McCoy says the stock is among the finest in the land. Presiding Eder Moore reported the death by his own hand of Bert Mill the postmaster at Cando. The article notes Mill was short about $1400 in his accounts with Uncle Sam, but popular with local businessmen, who might have helped him. It suggests possible ill-advised investments as the cause.
