Sixteen Veterans Attend Memorial Day Exercises

Memorial day observances in Minot featured a small turnout of sixteen veterans. The parade began at 9:30 a.m. headed by Col. Alexander Scarlett, with a cemetery ceremony for R. W. Davidson and addresses by Lieut. C. C. Wysong and Ex-Governor Devine. A noon dinner at the Leland and an afternoon program at the Armory followed before veterans visited the Lytle hospital to comfort ailing comrade Austin Foy. From Farm Careers to Minot High School Baccalaureate

Farmers and farm youth urged to train as farm experts with salaries 1500 to 5000 annually through Agricultural Colleges and Experimental Stations. Minot High School announces Baccalaureate Services on Sunday evening June 7 at 8 pm at the Methodist Episcopal church with music by the Glee Club, and addresses by Rev Hal P. Fudge and Rev P. W. Erickson.

The Independent surveys state races with Hanna tipped for governor and Burdick gaining early support. Ward candidates include Hall for Secretary of State, Taylor for Insurance, Jorgenson for Auditor, with Putnam favored for State Treasurer. Kraabel looks set for Lieutenant Governor and Linde for Attorney General. Congress contests see Simpson vs Norton and Tuttle vs Young. Gronna leads the Senate race. Stenvick Takes Charge of Minot Post Office

E H Stenvick, recently named postmaster of Minot, assumed duties June 1. Mrs Murphy, in charge three years, will be checked out this week as Democrats move to take over first class offices. Receipts for the year ending March 31 totaled 49298, a 12000 rise from the two prior years. Murphy remains in Minneapolis in Sept where Mr Murphy serves as general immigration agent of the Soo.

Dairymen Receive Prize Money at Mid Winter Fair

Successful dairy farmers at the Mid Winter fair gathered prize money this week. Al Erb earned three cows placing first fifth and seventh for a total of 23.55 dollars. Erick Hustad won one cow for second place and 12.80 dollars.

Ward county sheriff race under fire in public letter

In a letter to the Independent the writer claims there are seven candidates for sheriff, questions John J. Lee and ex-sheriff Carroll’s deal to fund Lee's bid, notes pay differences and jail conditions, and urges voters to consider past conduct before the June 24 election. The letter concludes by urging cleaner politics and refraining from patronage.

Minneapolis Jobbers Visit Minot on Soo Line Outing

The Special Boo train carrying 75 Minneapolis jobbers and manufacturers arrived in Minot from the South on Wednesday morning after visiting fifteen North Dakota towns. The group, led by the First Regimental Band, toured the city, received warm welcomes at the Commercial club, and praised Minot as the best city they had struck. The visit concluded with onward travel to Kenmare for the evening entertainment and continued Soo Line directions.

Effort Underway to Control State Lines for South Prairie Link
