Last North Dakota resident Perry dies after pneumonia

Wilton C Perry born April 6 1850 Arkwright New York died November 26 1918 near Surrey North Dakota at age 63 years 7 months 21 days. He lived in Indiana Illinois Minnesota Nebraska Nebraska Bowelle and Howells before moving to Surrey in 1901 where he remained active in Christian work. He leaves a wife two daughters six sons a mother two brothers two sisters and many friends. Funeral held at German Baptist church Surrey with ministers H S Morrison Thomas Johnson and D L Dierdorf. He rests in Surrey cemetery awaiting resurrection.

Fortuna Grows From Wheat Field to Busy Town

Early last summer the site now called Fortuna was a wheat field on the Soo extension from Ambrose. Now the town hosts banks stores elevators lumber yards and several industries. Mrs Rosie wife of a local merchant won first premium for bread baked with Snow White flour from Minot Mill Co. Martin Melos departed to Cresco for the winter.

Warren Case 10 Trial Dec 10 Over Mileage Charges

Ward 1 County sues E. G. Warren county superintendent to recover about 12 for alleged mileage overcharges. Greenleaf Bradford Nash represent Warren while State's Attorney Nestos and Dorr H. Carroll prosecute. Warren says payments cover actual travel. prosecutor contends many miles were not traveled. Case slated for December 10.

Selberg Promoted to Traffic Superintendent

Arthur E. Selberg, long time Soo ticket agent, is promoted to traffic superintendent in this territory with headquarters to be announced. He returned from Minnesota Saturday where the appointment was made and J. McEwan moves to a new role with the Maryland route. Friends celebrate the promotion and predict success.

North Dakota Press Association Meeting Arranged

Trubshaw of Valley City to preside with Holbein of Lansford Francia of Velva as executive chair. A statewide program for the winter session will be announced soon after a Saturday meeting on the 16th and 17th. The committee discussed special train plans and prior appearances before the body.

Minot Normal School to Move Dormitory in January

The girls dormitory and main building at Minot Normal School near completion. The dormitory will house 116 students with private baths, modern furnishings, and Johnson control heating. Rooms cost 4.50 per week and gym and recitation rooms are planned by January 15. Enrollment has reached eighty with expected doubling by fall.

Elk Cabaret Extravaganza to Draw Thousands in Minot

The Elk Lodge hosts its third annual minstrel show at the Grand theatre December 4 5 and 6 under Holly and Ann Shepard. The reader warns tickets are in high demand with a full program featuring Interlocutor Ben Bradford and the Harmony Maids among many acts. The note closes with a hopeful call to see readers at the Elks Convention in Minot in 1914 and a roster of participants.

Grain Growers at the Armory Meeting in Minot

The Grain Growers Convention and Mid-Winter fair are planned for Minot in February likely moving from the Armory. Lectures will be staged in a basement area with a concrete floor and animals, including cows, may be shown. Melon and Gladys visit Robinson, ND. Mellenger returns to Arcade barber shop.

Dr Griffen Returns to Ryder After Makati Trip

Dr J H Griffen, driven out of Ryder by angry citizens, has returned from Makati and hung out his shingle again. He says he will practice where he desires and fight charges that may bar him from practicing in the state. In Ryder, accusations arose over his absence at Geo Hart’s adultery trial, and Hart was fined $500. Hart’s conviction followed the doctor’s wife’s suicide after her alleged confession to the doctor.

Denbigh Brick Co Reorganizes After Trustee Appointment

Denbigh Pressed Brick Plant stockholders met in Minot to outline a reorganization aimed at strengthening the company. Plans include new machinery and a high cost press to produce a higher grade reduct. Harry L. Cardshaftner serves as trustee manager, with no indebtedness cited as the reason.

Bates Named Assistant Genety Immigration Agent for North the Soo Railway

Esteemed lawyer John J. Bates is appointed assistant to Major J. S. Murphy as immigration agent for the Soo Railway Company. Bates, long a state booster, moved from Illinois and will handle real estate duties as part of the new role. Card of thanks from Mrs. S. J. Eide and family for support after a death in the family.

Eastern Star Officers Elected at Venus Chapter 145

In Northwood North Dakota on November 28 Mrs Finger Enger widow of Senator Enger died after gallstone surgery. The Enger will valued at 700000 funded education philanthropy with ten children. Also news notes include new head of Opera barber shop manicure services and Eastern Star officers elected for the year.
