Whiskey Still Found East of the City Raid Seizes Dope and Booze

A still and five barrels of home brew were found in a shed by Sheriff Scofield Deputy Van denoever and State's Attorney Herry star three miles southeast of town on the Minot Logan road. Sam Boone and a man named Swanson were arrested after evidence samples were taken. Boone, an old bootlegger, resisted arrest. One bottle of potent whiskey was recovered and the booze, described as filthy and made from rotten apples and raisins, was dumped on the ground.

Surrey Woman’s Pleasant Car Trip and Idaho Visit

Miss Eva Eaton of Surrey returns from a six week vacation. She toured with four friends in a Studebaker Sedan from Birchwood Park to Tor Beach and across Montana Yellow Stone National Park Idaho and Wyoming. The trip covered 2202 miles by road with nearly 1000 miles by rail and praised park roads and sights. Two Planes Visit Minot on Cross Country Flight

Two airplanes en route across the continent bound for San Francisco landed at Chet Jacobson field west of Minot on Sunday. The visiting aircraft were observed at the flying field as they continued their journey toward the west coast.

Miss Laurette W Weis Michi an Miss Latratia Wright married John G. Berge of Flint Michigan on August 2 at Minot. Rev T A Olsen officiated. They plan to visit Minneapolis before settling in Flint. The bride, a Minot Normal School stenographer, and the groom, a Buick employee, are praised by friends.

Humorist Bill Nye listed a cow named Rose for sale citing ill health. The ad claims Rose is one four Shorthorn and three four hyena, milk producer, and attached to a chain, with a double barrel shotgun included. He prefers a nonresident buyer far away.

Glenburn Wool Grower Markets Clip

Harry Gowin of Glenburn drove to Min morning with 800 lbs of wool in four sacks loaded into his auto. The clip covers 99 sheep with 200 head total, including nearly 100 ewes. Banks will advance the current wool price to Gowin, who plans to ship later.

Grano Crops In Fine Shape Report From Local Farmer

Grano farmer G. E. McLean said crops are in fine condition with barley and other feed thriving and wheat yielding ten to twenty bushels per acre. He recalled cyclone damage in the district and described barn and stallion damage on nearby farms, noting extensive destruction on the Hans Ronvold property later sold to the Bryans ranch.

Ellison Family Returns from Minnesota Lakes

Norman Ellison his wife and two daughters came back Saturday from two weeks at Detroit and Park Rapids Minnesota. Ellison left Frank Taylor at Park Rapids after losing a $30 reel and pole to a bass strike. He recounted taking nine miles in Taylor's motor boat with Rev P W Erickson before the motor failed and the men rowed back after ten at night.

Ward County dairy gains boost in June milk pay

For June 1920 Ward County farmers produced and sold cream totaling about 70 000 dollars while Minot creameries hauled 55 000 pounds of butter fat from local milk. The report notes rising dairy stock quality and educational efforts to diversify farming and improve returns.

Rye threshing at Leland store yields $1.56 per bushel

Guy O. Frank of the Leland Department store began threshing a volunteer rye crop Tuesday. The rye is fine and plump with excellent yield, sold directly from the machine at $1.56 a bushel. First threshing reported in the area. wheat and oats on the Frank farm ready for harvest as well. Henry Auslander and Jacob Frost and others started cutting their wheat and oats this week.

Hailstorm damages farm and vicinity near Velva

A heavy hail and rain storm struck the H. J. Reid farm area a short distance northwest of town Tuesday afternoon. Hall caused considerable damage to Reid’s torn field and neighbors also suffered some losses due to the storm in Velva vicinity.

Rust Damages Late Wheat In Ward County Runs Low Yields

County Agent Gorman reports rust arrived a week ago and heavily damaged late wheat. He estimates Ward County yields at eight or nine bushels per acre, down from earlier forecasts, with some fields unprofitable to harvest. The disease is widespread, especially where crops are heavy, and advises delaying cutting until disease impact clarifies moisture loss risk.

Woman Paroled After Killing Convict Husband in Self Defense

Langdon North Dakota August 3. Mrs Louis Godon was paroled after pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter for shooting her convict husband July 4. She claimed she acted as he threatened to shoot her during a quarrel and while mentally weak. He had previously been jailed for a statutory offense against his 11 year old stepdaughter. He sought pardon. she said she acted when he returned to the bedroom with a gun.

McKinley Farmer Reports Strong Wheat Prospects

McKinley township farmer W F Rothenberg showcases his fields of Hineavoni and Marquis wheat on 400 acres.
