Ore Season To Open April 1
Rail shipments to the Escanaba docks are not expected to start until about April 1 due to dock repairs and track improvements. Mine operators report local facilities are ready, but delays push ore movement from the range to next month. Albert Eckart and wife Mrs. Eckart returned from Florence Wisconsin where they attended the funeral of Frank Eckart 82 who died March 15. He was born May 12, 1869 at Wittenberg Wisconsin and worked 30 years for Pickands Mather Co. Survived by brother Albert a daughter Mrs. Earl Barnes a son Clarence of Iron River two sisters a brother John three grandsons and two great granddaughters.

Keski Receives Combat Infantryman Badge in Korea
Private First Class William A. Keski of Wakefield Route 1 son of Mr and Mrs Nick Keski was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for outstanding duty with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. The badge honors frontline soldiers and features a miniature flintlock rifle on a blue background with a wreath. Keski joined the Army in February 1951 and serves in Company D 31st Infantry Regiment.

Tragedy from Slew of Teens Ends in 14-Year-Old’s Death
A joy ride with six teens ended in Patricia Laessig’s death after a Fall or jump from a car near US-2 and Sunday Lake Drive west of Wakefield during a sleet storm. Patricia, born July 19, 1937, died at Wakefield hospital after internal injuries and a skull fracture. The driver was 16 year old Allen Youngs with passengers Eugene D Antonio, Richard Johnson, Janice Bugni, Carol Saari, and Patricia in the rear. The car was owned by Henry Simonson. The incident prompted police to question the occupants as investigators review details. Patsy, a Wakefield High School ninth grader, sang in school and church choirs and was active in community events. Her funeral is planned for Saturday at St Marys Church.

Married in Bessemer on March 22, 1902 they have spent their married life here. He is 70 and she 68, both in good health. He worked many years at the Sunday Lake mine and has been retired 12 years. They have five daughters and one son, plus seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
