Jail and federal prison terms totaling 68 years and fines of 15000 were imposed on 49 liquor law violators in Marquette. Judge Fred M. Sunday Lake Gun Club Elects Officers and Plans Range

John W. Maki Dies and Funeral Held Here
Funeral services for John W. Maki were held Thursday afternoon at the Finnish Lutheran church. He died Sunday morning at Grand View hospital after a long illness with tuberculosis. Pallbearers included Lauri Kivi and Gust Syrja. He lived on a Wakefield area farm until two months ago, later moving to Ironwood. Employed as a collector and correspondent for a Finnish newspaper in Duluth, he was about 49 and survived by his wife and one child. He had been active in local politics and served briefly as a township supervisor.

S E Doering senior federal ranger and H Anderson of Kenton spoke during a road survey about a proposed national forest. They said Iron River could host the headquarters for a 163000 acre tract spanning Iron Gogebic Houghton and Ontonagon counties with 40000 acres already purchased and the rest under negotiation or reverter by tax delinquency. The tract is 24 miles wide by 12 miles deep.

Wakefield High School opened its football season with a 7 6 victory over Norway High at Cardinal Field. The game featured strong defense from both sides with Lepinski scoring for Wakefield and Norway replying after a miscue in the second quarter. Roy Porter left with an injury early in the third, as Norway pressed toward the Wakefield goal late. Officials were Graves, Hinote, Taylor, Mall. Coaches praised sportsmanship and training behind the effort from Norway.

Hurley Man Sentenced to 60 Days for DWI
Mike Vukadonovich of Hurley received 60 days in the county jail after a driving while intoxicated conviction on Sunday afternoon. He stated he had not worked in three years and claimed no money for legal help. Prosecutor W G Cloan presented witnesses showing Vukadonovich struck a car driven by William Richards of Iron Belt two miles east of Wakefield. The judge found him guilty and imposed the sentence.
