Wakefield School District voters will pay about one mill more, raising the rate to $22.62 per thousand of valuation to generate an estimated $7,000 for education costs. The board approved the increase, with city taxpayers at $131,570.17 and township $32,892.54, totaling $164,462.71.

Gilbert to Retire as Delta County Welfare Director
Arthur M. Gilbert will retire as director of the Delta county welfare program on October 23 after 23 years of service. He is the brother of William Gilbert of Pike and served Wakefield as mayor from 1925 to 1928 and was postmaster here by appointment of the late Congressman W. Frank James.

Local conservation officers emphasize that carrying firearms is absolutely barred from September 16 to October 1 before the small game hunting season. All small game licenses are void during this period and any person caught with a firearm will be arrested and prosecuted.

Automatic Pin Setters to Start at Lake View Alleys
Installation of automatic pin setters at the Lakeview bowling alleys begins immediately after a signed contract. Mechanical pin setting gear has been removed and no bowling is possible until completion. Lakeview will be among the first in the area to use the modern devices. Funeral Rites Held For Arthur Mustapaa 35
Funeral rites were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church for Arthur Emil Mustapaa 35 who died Saturday morning at Divine Infant Hospital after wartime service in the South Pacific. He was born January 6 1922 in Wakefield and worked as a miner at Sunday Lake Mine. He is survived by his wife Judith Pikka two daughters Linda and Jo Ellen his mother five sisters and four brothers. Military rites were conducted by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars with color guard and flag presentation to his widow. Interment was at Lakeside cemetery with an R O T C firing squad. Out of town relatives attended.
