Immanuel Lutheran Church schedules for the sixteenth Sunday after Trinity on September 16 with Sunday school at 9 30 a m and divine worship at 11 a m including special music. An evening service is at 8 p m and the confirmation class will meet Friday at 4 30 p m.

Final Rites For Pioneer Held Saturday Afternoon

Final rites for the late Mrs. Eric Nikula were held at the Finnish Lutheran church Saturday afternoon. The services were in charge of Rev. N. Korhonen with interment in Wakefield cemetery. Pallbearers were John Kuivinen Matti Pikka Sr Asa Anderson Isaac Ranta John Nordine and Antti Luoma. Mrs Nikula had long church service as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher and died Sept 4 at the Wico farm home after a long illness. She had lived in the city 40 years since coming from Niles Ohio in 1894. Survived by husband Seca arenanie Miss Tynni Ella Ethel and Mrs M Nikarado at home Miss Gertrude and Mrs Waine Nyman. Sons Arthur and Arnie at home. Two brothers Jacob Liimakka Ironwood and Walter Liimakka Ironwood. A sister resides in Finland.

Woman's Club Opens Fall Season With Luncheon

Julia Desonia daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas Desonia of Wakefield became the bride of An my J Welnetz son of Anton Welnetz Manitowoc Wisconsin at St Boniface Catholic Church during the 3 o clock mass. Rev Any Jaeckle officiated the ceremony. The peach chiffon gown and orchid accessories described the bride as maid Isabel Welnett wore pink taffeta with blue accessories as maid of honor. Clarence Koch of Two Rivers Wisconsin served as best man. Guests included Mr and Mrs Frank Burczyk Mr and Mrs C Moszki Mr and Mrs Joseph Ukasick Miss Angeline Burczyk and others at a 230 o clock dinner.

ERA Building Potatoe Warehouse in Gogebic County

Two new concrete potato storage warehouses rise in Gogebic County serving Bessemer Wakefield Ironwood and Erwin Township farmers. Crews of 50 60 expected per site with completion by October 10. Farmers cooperatives will take over and pledge first mortgage to Michigan Rehabilitation Corporation. Storage rates will fund the project.

Cards Open Football Season at Washburn

The 1934 Cardinals, coached by Duffin and Trewyn, face a light and inexperi­enced lineup in the season opener at Washburn this afternoon. Despite weight and experience gaps, coaches expect fight and teachable progress as they begin a seven game schedule that also includes Ironwood Ashland Bessemer Hurley Iron River and Stambaugh with an open week on Oct 20.

St Marys Club Seeks Volunteers for Annual Election

Board Hires Janitors, Drivers For School District

The board of education hired three janitors Ivar Hill at the gymnasium James Negro at the senior high school and Walter Fisher at the Wico school and three bus drivers Richie Valesano Reino Niemi John Gugliemetti and Aloysius Proteau at its Wednesday meeting. On Sunday September 16 the Finnish Lutheran Church Y P C A will open a new term with a 7 30 p m program including hymns readings and a sermon followed by a lunch in the church parlors all are invited.

Lott Defeats Senator Derham in Bitter Republican Fight

Clarence E. Lott of Negaunee defeated Iron Mountain incumbent Senator Ray Derham for the Republican nomination in the thirty first district. Lott won with 12 506 votes to Derham 6 275 and Peter J Schon 1 508 across Marquette Iron Gogebic and Dickinson counties. Derham carried Gogebic only and faced sharp campaign attacks over legal fees. Lott pledged to challenge Democrat John C Wickstrom in the general election.
