The column notes mild early winter days with temperatures in the thirties and twenties and light snow. Hunters welcome the snow while readers forecast less traffic risk as relatives visit for Thanksgiving, especially Wakefield students.
Funeral services for Mose Giansante 84 of 802 Pierce Street were held at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev Joseph Kichak officiating. Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers included Dominic Giansante Eugene Corolewski George Corolewski Arvo Aho Oreste Bruno and Donald Pezzetti. Among out of town attendees were Lyle Brown Susan and Patrick Hancock Mrs Lucy Negri Mrs Peter Valerio Iron Mountain Mr and Mrs Dominic Giansante Superior.
The Jay-Teens Club of Wakefield organized at Mr. Pietrek’s home with a planned meeting Sunday November 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Catholic School. The Lucky Charms 4-H Club announces a bake sale December 16 at the Co-op Store to draw more youth participation.
Indianhead Mountain Lodge introduces a low cost mini-ski week offering two extra lodging nights meals and skiing at the tail end of the weekend plan. Packages start at 40 dollars per person plus a 20 per person per day option for Sunday Monday. A 25 percent child discount applies and a toll free line offers reservations.
City workers installed a large beautifully shaped tree in the city square at Main and Sunday Lake Hancock Streets. Hundreds of colored lights and a top star brighten the display destined to appear across the area. The Verona Location tree will be further decorated with evergreen garlands on Main Street light standards.
Regular worship at First Lutheran Church includes Sunday services at 9:30 am for Sunday School and Finnish services and 10:45 am for English. Confirmation class meets Tuesday at 4 pm. Youth Choir rehearses Wednesday at 6:30 pm. The Lutheran Church Women hold a general meeting Wednesday Nov 29 at 7:30 pm. guest T. R. Wirtanen speaks on Social Ministry. A film about Coach Landry and the Dallas Cowboys titled A Man and His Men will be shown. Bonnie Milan Mass speaks on Campus Crusade Ministry.
Funeral services for David Laine age 31 who died at Downey Veteran's Hospital Downey Illinois were held Wednesday at 1 pm at Lakeside Memorial Chapel with Rev Donald Fus officiating Interment followed at Lakeside Cemetery Pallbearers included Robert Mattila Duane Mattila Anthony Celello Gerald Wiitanen Arlen Pensala and Robert Strasser Out of town mourners included Mr and Mrs Earl Laine Mr and Mrs Andrew Pensala and children Katherine Michael and Arlen Mrs Marcella Pensala Waukegan NL Mr and Mrs James Pocian and son Danny Oak Creek Wis Mr and Mrs Donald Haute North Chicago and Mr and Mrs Arnold Johnson Marion

Local residents and relatives gather for Thanksgiving visits as several families travel from Deerwood Ishpeming Milwaukee and Michigan Tech. A birth is announced Emily Renee Seppa born Oct 28 weighing 9 lbs 11 oz. Hunters report a 200 pound eight point buck taken near Marenisco Township.
Funeral services for John Elmer Mattson 45 of Wakefield Township were held Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church with Rev Wayne Kunsistor officiating. Burial followed at Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers named J arvenpaa Mattson and Risula among others attended. Out of town mourners included Mrs Helen Choronzy Appleton Wis and relatives from Oshkosh Omro Tauno and Frank Jarvenpaa.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop No 11 holds an investiture service on Sunday November 26 at 2 30 PM at the American Legion Hall. Scouts and mothers are asked to attend for a pin presentation.
Wakefield's new Holiday Store opens Saturday west of Wakefield on US 2 with 24 hour service starting this week. Manager David Killinger relocated from Munising. assistant Frank Steiner comes from Ironwood. Store stocks clothing, shoes, toys, drugs, car and home goods with prices matching Ironwood.
Oscar Hill aged 92 of Thomaston Road died November 14 at Divine Infant Hospital where he had been a patient since November 5. Born April 12, 1880 in Lofsvarden Norsemark Finland he came to the U S in 1901 and later lived in Wakefield for about 40 years. A woodsman by trade he never married and had no known relatives. Funeral was held Thursday at 10 am at Lakeside Memorial Chapel with burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
The list names jurors selected for the period December 5 1972 through February 5 1973 including Marvin L Tassava Alma Badovski Dolores M Raisanen Joseph F Banaszak and others. Standby jurors are also named along with a holiday visit from Rev Father Arnold Grambow of Escanaba to his parents.
Two new histories salute Connor Forest Industries with runs from 1872 to 1972 and a century with Connor Timber. Wausau figures Gordon R. Connor W. D. Connor and R. M. Connor are highlighted. The Wakefield start and local workers are noted with photos.

Tim Beber, an MTA student, is visiting with his mother and sister.
