William Tiebel of Hazelhurst visits family at Sunset Manor. Detroit couple Jack and Jack Dugan join deer hunters at a local cottage. J. Geroux Jr. visits from Michigan Tech for Thanksgiving. Several families welcome new babies and travel for holidays. Private and military travelers stop by for brief visits and leave for Fort Carson a new assignment.
Mrs Zigmund Skolasinski and Mrs Henry Pretti with Circle 5 and Mrs Joe Negri Circle 6 led the session at Father Daniel Hall. Circle 6 hosted as the meeting notes urged good attendance and announced dues for 1974 payable to the secretary or treasurer.
Regular worship services are set for Sunday at First Lutheran Church with a Finnish Sunday School service at 9 30 am and an English worship at 10 fifty am. Pastor Donald Nelson will speak at the Lutheran Church Women meeting at 7 30 pm on Wednesday. The men are invited to attend and the youth choir practices at 6 30 pm Wednesday. Mrs Jack Franklin of 902 Harrison Street killed a 4 point 140 pound deer within an hour after Michigan’s deer season opened at Wolf Man.
Gary F. Rajala, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Newman of Oak Lawn Illinois, recently graduated and spent several days visiting relatives and friends in town during the post graduation period.
Five Wakefield High School 1920 classmates gathered at Mrs Anton Olson’s 602 Putnam home after learning Mrs P J Jarrett of Rockwood Illinois was visiting. Also present were Mrs Mar gie Jacobson and Mrs Lillian Mook along with Mrs Weda Cormier and Mrs Marie Schiltz. One member Mrs Della Weber had died recently. The group recalled past years and shared lunch in a warm afternoon gathering.
Victory Chapter No 32 of the Order of the Eastern Star installs its officers at the Wakefield Masonic Temple on November 14. Harold J Graves is named worthy patron and Mrs Harold J Graves worthy patron. Assignments include Carl E Kieimola and Mrs. Kieimola as associate patron and matron, with conductress Mrs Richard Brown and associate conductress Mrs Bruce Cox. Officers for secretary and treasurer are Mrs Harlan Johnson and Mrs Raymond Walstrom.
Roderick V. Halvorson son of Mr and Mrs Vern J Halvorson of Wakefield Michigan has completed six weeks of Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB Texas He studied the Air Force mission organization and customs and received instruction in human relations He remains at the Air Training Command base for specialized training in security police He is a 1973 graduate of Wakefield High School
P Ayman Roderick Halverson is spending a 10 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Vernie Halver son and other relatives and friends. He recently completed basic training and schooling in Lackland Air Base Texas and will report after his furlough to the Air Base in Duluth.
The 15th District President Mrs Ruth Anderson of Crystal Falls Michigan attended the Wakefield VFW Post Auxiliary meeting on November 14 to observe procedures and review the books. A chamber letter requested snow sculpture contest participation and a donation for the children's Christmas activity.
Dr. and Mrs. Paul Hanson of Jerusalem are parents of a son, Mark Christopher, born November 13. Maternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Russell Rosenberger of Gettysburg, paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. H. Victor Hanson of Wakefield. Paul, a theology professor at Harvard College, is on sabbatical in Israel. They will travel to Germany and return to the United States in January. The family endured sirens and bomb shelters during hostilities and blackouts. They also have a daughter Amy born in Jerusalem three years ago.
Mrs. Charles Simmons of Ironwood will address the Lutheran Church Women of Immanuel on Monday November 26 at 7 15 p m with the executive committee meeting earlier at 6 45 p m Visitors are invited to the program She is wife of Pastor Simmons of St Luke's Lutheran Church Ironwood Born in Japan she will discuss her conversion and wartime life in Japan The Esther Guild will lead devotions and Ruth Guild hostesses remind members to bring bank offering boxes for the African Youth Fund and six inch pots for a Christmas project
