The local Masonic lodge held its first meeting in its new rooms at the Wico chapel on Thursday evening. The former Ringsmuth building rooms at Sunday Lake and Hancock streets are being remodeled into office spaces.
Raymond Hill Arthur Lane and Roy Lane left for Muskegon for work while Mrs. Margaret Yatchak sails to Chicago for an indeterminate stay. Ronald Kent, formerly of Wakefield, visits on his annual deer trip and to see his mother. Mrs. Mary Leo Ahonen has received an army discharge and visits her parents. Joseph Ringsmuth, First National Bank assistant cashier, and Mrs Emil Nelson plan visits to Chicago. Ralph Ranta of Marinette spends a few days with his Wakefield relatives before visiting Detroit to his wife and daughter. The Rantas, former Wakefield residents, are connected to a RAF Airway and Air Communications Service veteran.
Willette Bacon dramatic artist and radio entertainer presented I Remember Mama at the Wakefield Community building on Wednesday night. Sponsored by the Wakefield Womans Club with guests from Ironwood and Bessemer, the event featured John Van Druten's dramatization of Kathryn Forks Mama's Bank Account. Mrs Bacon impressed in the two hour reading and was accompanied by a guest vocal soloist Mrs James ments and club hostesses. Earlier, the board entertained the visitors at dinner in club rooms with WSCS Methodist church members assisting.
William St Arnold 60 of Kaukauna Wis a former Wakefield resident died suddenly Monday after being found unconscious in North Western railroad yards where he worked as a switch man He lived at 425 Whitney St Kaukauna Born Nov 29 1885 in Iron Mountain he served the North Western for 35 years Funeral services were at St Mary Catholic Church Kaukauna with burial in the parish cemetery He leaves a widow five grandchildren and several children and siblings in Michigan and Chicago
Ralph K. Smith of Clawson Hugh Wood Jr of Detroit and Henry Hoppe Jr of Detroit were arrested Sunday by conservation officers for carrying loaded guns in their cars. They were arraigned Monday in Gus Canes court and fined 25 dollars plus 6.85 dollars costs each. Conrad Austin Hancock of Cyn thiana Ky was also arrested for hunting rabbits without a small game permit and fined 10 dollars plus 6.85 dollars costs by Judge Cane at Ontonagon.
An organization meeting of the Wakefield city planning commission will be held Friday evening at the city hall. Judge Robert R. Wright of the state board will discuss aspects of the planning law with the new commission. Members include Victor Lepisto Clarence Jacobson I L Voyer H L Anderson H L Trezise Elmer Lusa and Mayor R F Cloon.
Sheriff Frank Petrlich took Stanley Smith to Marquette to serve a two to five year term on theft charges from Eddy Park beach houses. Smith previously served in Bremerton for minor offenses and was a parole fugitive at arrest while residing in Wakefield. Capt. and Mrs. Trebilcock depart for Chicago as Mrs. Trebilcock and baby visit before his army discharge. they have stayed with James H. Trebilcock the past week.
The Wakefield city commission discussed settling a suit brought by W G Cloon. Attorney S W Patek argued for $3250 in fees, while W F Pellow urged $1500 as a reasonable settlement. Settlement was recommended after debates over deed reform linked to property held by Mrs Cloon and Mrs Yatchak.
A social gathering honoring Mrs. Luoma featured a night of companionship and ecards. Attendees shared memories and enjoyed light activities marking the occasion.
Sunday schedule lists Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. and morning worship at 11:00 a.m. The service is announced as the Thanksgiving service.
