Indianhead Mountain plans a Thanksgiving opening with hope driven by heavy Western Upper Peninsula snow. manager Paul Karow notes the tradition continues despite variable early snowfall. The camp run by Heli Schaller, with Pepi Stiegler assisting, draws 100 young racers for November and December sessions as snow accumulates.
Robert A. Christofferson, former Toy Tinkers president, joins Connor Forest Industries as General Sales Manager for Connor Toy and Williamsburg Juvenile Furniture. He holds degrees from Lake Forest College and North Park Junior College and has held multiple leadership roles in toy manufacturing. He and his wife June live at 3206 Timberline Drive in Wausau with their four children.
The First Lutheran Church will hold a Thanksgiving service at 7 00 p m on Wednesday November 24 with participation from men women children and youth and music by the church choirs led by Rev Wayne Kuusisto A coffee reception follows in the lower church The public is invited Also noted a birth of a daughter to Mr and Mrs Benjamin Berno on November 16 at Divine Infant Hospital

Navy airman John E Neumann graduates in Jacksonville and community plans Thanksgiving services at Immanuel Lutheran with music film and LCW meeting. School seniors report a profitable theater production at Wakefield Motor Lodge with roses and gifts to the director staff.
Mrs Bruce Cox was installed as Worthy Matron of Victory Chapter in a Masonic Building ceremony. Installing officers included Eunice Olson and Agnes Carr. other officers named include Hazel Raess, Mil dred Johnson, Gertrude Walstron, Lucille Brown, and Elsie Kleimola. A potluck lunch and bakeless bake sale are planned for December.
Indianhead Mountain has named Mike Sullivan as public relations director. The 29 year old Chicago native moved to the area three years ago to pursue skiing and formerly worked as a reporter and sportswriter for the Ironwood Daily Globe. He earned a bronze at NASTAR racing last season and runs two ski lodges while promoting summer convention business from Indianhead Mountain Lodge.
Newly elected council members will assume office at 7 30 p m Monday November 22 in the Council Chambers Mayor Eugene Maki to open the meeting City clerk Martha Juepperi to conduct the election of a new mayor The new council members are John W Ballone Clarence M Halberg Wallace G Leno Leonard J Pikka and Darell D Randall
The Davenport hero Samuel Duffin earned fame for rescuing the 16th Iowa flag at Kenesaw Mountain. He was mortally wounded near Atlanta and died in Rome Georgia on August 22 1864. The story honors his bravery and the Des Moines Civil War banner linked to Quad City history.
A Veterans Day program for the school system and public was held Thursday November 11 at Wakefield High School gym at 1:00 p.m. The program featured the high school band under Elder Pflughoeft and chorus under Dwight Lundeby with commentator Eugene Maki.
Local promotions invite participants to collect all eight of Santa's reindeer Dasher Dancer Prancer Vixen Comet Cupid Donner and Blitzen. Eligible entrants must be 18 or older. Contest runs from November 17 to December 24 1971 with multiple winners and grand prize chances.
