Private Gary J. Mattson aged 18 son of Elmer and Mrs. Mattson Route 1 Wakefield completed an 11 week helicopter repair course on October 28 at the Army Transportation School Fort Eustis Virginia. He was trained in maintenance of the UH 1D utility helicopter.

VFW Post 9084 Receives District Inspection Honors
Wakefield VFW Post 9084 hosted a yearly district inspection led by 15th District Commander Arnold Stoychoff who found books in order and praised the post’s work. Fred Williams received a department certificate of appreciation and a life membership. Riobert Linn and Williams were advanced to further posts and roles by Department Commander John Kulick. The post aims to earn a commendation for 1967-68 membership growth and plans two holiday dances plus a Christmas Party donation to local groups.

The newly opened Denbo's Motel and Coffee Shop sits at the West entrance to Wakefield on US 2 after being remodeled and repainted. The property was purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mascotti of Bessemer. The former information bureau now hosts a modern coffee shop, with grounds used for trailer parks where Clyde Denbos live.
