Army Specialist Four Ted Corolewski Jr 20 from Wakefield Michigan took part in Exercise Reforger V in Germany October 10 to 16 joining American and Allied troops. The U S airlift moved about 11000 soldiers and 1000 tons of equipment to three German air fields for the seven day field maneuver. NATO Europe based forces from the U S Germany and Canada opposed the airlifted units in a drill focusing on receiving equipping assembling and employing units after arrival. Corolewski serves as a tank commander with Company B 4th Battalion 1st Infantry Division 63rd Armor at Fort Riley Kansas.
The Junior Luther League of First Lutheran Church met with Mrs. Alden Kastar leading devotions. A Bible Study on Key 73 preceded plans for a bake sale November 10 at 9 a.m. at the Wakefield Co op to aid the Christian Children Fund. Next meeting November 18 will feature a film and refreshments. The group may attend Time to Run in Ironwood and plans include Advent concerts and a splash Christmas party at Circle Hills pool.

A Sunday program at Immanuel Lutheran Church marks Appreciation Day for Rev and Mrs Wallace Leno and family. The day begins with Sunday School at 9 a.m. and family worship at 10 30 a.m. A pot luck dinner follows in the Lower Church then an upper church program. The Rachel Guild hosts a public appreciation tea at about 3 p.m. Members and friends are urged to attend.
The Upper Peninsula Association of County Commissioners met at Pine Mountain Lodge Iron Mountain Mich Four Gogebic County Commissioners attended along with representatives from 14 other UP counties The event featured speakers including Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas M Kavanagh U P A C C leaders and 14 additional speakers on airports taxation and ambulance services A side trip to Eat Kingsford showcased the UP only car shredder demonstration by Norman Mainville
The Wakefield Area Art League holds its regular session at Mrs. Jennie Soffietti’s home 305 South Hematite Street Bessemer tonight at 7:30. Mrs. Margie Kellett reports on a trip to Greenfield Museum Dearborn and Cranbrook Bloomfield Hills Mich, plus an original skit. Hostesses are Mrs. Soffietti and Mrs. Kellett. Attendance urged.
The public is invited to a Veteran's Day program at Wakefield High School gym on Monday November 12 at 2 15 p m. Superintendent William Creger will be the main speaker. Local veterans organizations will present and retire the colors. The Wakefield High School band will perform selections.
The Mary Guild meets today at 1 30 p m. The Senior Choir practices at 6 30 p m and Bible Study at 7 30 p m. Sunday services include Fin nish worship at 9 30 a m and English worship at 10 45 a m. Senior Youth Group meets Sunday at 6 30 p m. Tuesday church council at 7 p m. Wednesday Youth Choir rehearsal and confirmation class at 6 30 p m.
Wakefield Public Library will open Thursday evening from 6 30 to 8 30 p m instead of Friday to accommodate the Senior Class Play scheduled for Friday. Attend the performance.
Mrs. J. Elmer Hanson spent weeks in Three Rivers Michigan visiting Rev. and Mrs. John Booke and family and traveled via Chicago to see her nephew Kenneth Hanson. Others visited include Mrs. William Hansen and Karen of Rhinelander Wisconsin. Shirley Martinson returned from six weeks in western states with Mary Gaik of Wakefield accompanying part of the trip. Tony Mezzano visited Milwaukee to see Don Krznarich and family and to meet new grandson Scott Lee born October 29.
Unofficial results show 472 ballots cast in Wakefield on election day, with 241 in Precinct One and 231 in Precinct Two. Voters selected Raymond B. Ott 291 total, Robert L. Gerbig Sr 244, Andrew Forte 237, Mike Orlich 194, Peter F. Delich 159, Emil Movrich Sr 117, William Velin 101, Emil Movrich 40, Emil S Movrich Jr 4, including 57 and 44 write-ins in the two precincts.
The Wakefield High School seventh and eighth grade basketball team prepares eight games for the 1973 74 season with all contests at 6 00 p m The schedule lists home and away games against Washington Ramsay and St Sebastian across November December and January.
Herb Johnson notes many boys exercise around the lake this summer and hopes a Fourth of July race around the lake with a purse will be organized. The plan aims to encourage fitness and community event participation.
Wakefield VFW Post 9084 calls a special membership meeting for Thursday November 8 1973 at 7 30 p m. The notice urges all members to attend.
Wakefield High School Class of 1939 organizes meetings with Louis Obradovich as chairman and Oreste Bruno as secretary treasurer. A reunion is set for July 3 1974 at the Wakefield V F W Clubrooms with letters to be mailed soon and all classmates encouraged to attend.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 hosted a large membership banquet at Lakeside Veterans Hall on a Saturday night. About 300 VFW auxiliaries, spouses, and guests attended a social hour and catered banquet. Frank Stempihar led as master of ceremonies and welcomed Arnold Rajala and Mrs Joe Mack among other dignitaries, with Wilbert Lummakka overseeing the arrangements and Big John and the Badmen providing music for dancing after the program.
The Wakefield American Legion sponsors a beer dinner on Sunday November 11 at 6 30 p m in the Post Home on River Street. 50 year members will be honored guests with auxiliary members and others invited. A social hour follows and a nominal meal charge applies.
Regular worship services will be held Sunday at 10 30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Sunday School meets at 9 am. The children's choir practices Tuesday at 3 20 pm and the Senior confirmation class meets at 4 pm Tuesday. The Junior confirmation class meets Wednesday at 4 pm.
Montreal chairman George Samardich asked Wakefield to sell 5 or 6 acres near the little league field for a nursing home project. The land value is estimated at 9 000 to 11 000 with a required special election. Council urged financial checks on the organization before any election and deferred action to the new council after reviewing statements.
MTU grid Huskies coach Jim Kapp awarded nine Blue Chip honors after a 14 10 defeat by Moorhead State. The team had previously voted not to give awards unless they won. Dick Dossetto of Wakefield was among the offensive standouts.

The Immanuel Guilds to Meet All the Guilds of the Immanuel Lutheran Church will meet Monday Nov. 12. The Ruth Guild meets at 2 p.m. with Mrs J Elmer Hanson and Mrs Marie Schiltz as hostesses. The Rachel and Esther Guilds meet at 7 30 p.m.
